How do I start a blog and what are the best blogging platforms available?
I will like us to start with the preferred blogging platform, Am going to streamline this discussion to just the two most popular blogging platforms Blogger and Wordpress.

Blogger

Blogger wan founded by Evan Williams before it was acquired by GOOGLE in 2003, When Evan joined Google, he assumed he would get some engineers working for his team and eventually be ushered into the Google Master Plan. In actuality, while there was some immediate integration with Google Ads, the Blogger platform didn't get a whole lot of resources thrown at it, so Evan left shortly after to help co-found twitter and now the CEO of Medium. Speaking from experience Blogger is a great platform, I love the interface I think if Evan has been given the resource he needed when he moved to Google he would have been able to make blogger better.

Wordpress

WordPress is a free and open-source content management system (CMS) based on PHP and MySQL unlike blogger that it back-end is build with JAVA. Matt Mullenweg is the founding developer of WordPress and the founder of Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com, Akismet, and more. As stated above WordPress is an open source content management system it has a lot of contributors unlike Blogger that is solely maintained by Google WordPress have many developers to help develop plugins, themes and modules to make it better. Blogger is poorly updated but Wordpress any security issues and bugs are quickly tackled.

Conclusion

Wordpress and Blogger have their own pros. and cons., I like blogger because it challenging it basically make you go into web designing because when you are using the platform you will need to know some basics XHTML and CSS, Blogger is very secure, unlike Wordpress that is one of the most hacked CMS on the internet due to user failing to update. So if you are going for WordPress I will recommend that you use BlueHost because they have been able to build a script that will automatically update every WordPress platforms on their servers whenever updates are available to avoid security issues.

Make sure to write a minimum of 250 words per post, this will help your contents rank better on search engines. You can get started with blogger by visiting Blogger.com and sign up. The remaining steps are easy you just choose any template from the existing templates and start blogging. As for Wordpress blogging you will need to acquire an hosting and a domain name where you will upload the WordPress platform that you can download from wordpress.com but luckily things are easier now, most hosting companies have been able to integrate some quick install packages to the control panel where you can do all the setup for WordPress installation in just few clicks.
